PLASTIC, TEXTILE, STONE AND CERAMICS MATERIALS

PLASTICS
Plastic or polymers. Polymerisation
Origin of plastic: Natural (very few) and Sinthetic (from petroleum, natural gas and carbon)
Properties of plastics: malleability, ductility, low density, insulation properties, impermeability.
Not biodegradable but we can recycle them.
Classification in 3 groups:
  • Thermoplastic: PET, PVC, PS, PP, LDPE, HDPE, PMMA, Teflon, nylon objetcs and their symbol to recycle.
  • Thermostable: you can only shape once. If you heat more times they degrades but you cannot shape again.
  • Elastomers:rubber (natural and synthetic). Made with vulcanitasion.
FORMATION TECHNIQUES
Extrusion, Lamination, Vacuum forming, blow moulding, injection moulding, compression.

TEXTILES.

Vocabulary: thread, fabric, cloth, cotton, linen, silk, hemp, wool,
  • fibre of vegetable, animal or mineral origin.
  • fibre of synthetic origin: polyester, rayon, nylon, lycra
STONE AND STONE AND BINDERS.
Vocabulary: marble, granite, slave, sand, gravel, waterproof, plaster, cement, mortar, concrete.

CERAMICS AND GLASS.
How we made ceramics and glass. Properties of glass.
